What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers can be a long-term solution for anyone concerned about crooked, discoloured or chipped front teeth. They can even be used to close up unwanted gaps or create the effect of longer teeth.
Veneers are thin coverings made from either porcelain or composite (white filling material). These are individually formed and then glued to the front of existing teeth, covering imperfections to create a new and improved shape and colour.
To achieve some results it may be recommended to whiten your teeth prior to veneers, your dentist will fully assess this and talk you through all of the options.

If the shape of your own teeth have been changed to make room for the veneer this is permanent and you should plan for replacements in the future. This is where orthodontics may be a better option, as the teeth are generally left as they were, but it can take significantly longer to achieve results.
The process
This treatment involves assessing your teeth to make sure they are healthy and strong enough to support a veneer. Next, we shape the existing tooth to allow space for the veneer to sit over the top and make a mould or scan of your teeth. This mould is sent to a specialist laboratory where technicians create the veneers, to make sure they fit the shape and size of the natural teeth perfectly.
Once they have been designed and produced, the veneer is attached using strong glues. Once in place, the veneers should feel and look like natural teeth.
